A few words about this family business
The Galanopoulos family (Galanides) originate from Paramythia, Thesprotia, with a history that goes back 170 years to the distant 1855 with roots from the Kalarrites of Ioannina. The first shop - foundry opened in Constantinople in 1875, manufacturing church bells and brass bells under the name "Kypria".

In the following years, the Kypria became known throughout Asia Minor, Bulgaria as well as in the Greek area where there were many craftsmen mainly from the villages of Ioannina.

With the Asia Minor disaster and the persecution from Constantinople in 1922, our ancestors settled in Paramythia, Thesprotia, which was a major commercial center of that time.

In the following years and after the liberation of Paramythia at the end of World War II, this art flourished.
The Cypriot (brass bells) began to be worn by all herds of animals, but mainly by the male animals, so that the herders could hear them on the slopes of the mountains and when the herd was far away so that they could easily locate it.

Another important use of the bells was the fear caused by the heavy and loud sound in wild animals (wolves - bears) that threatened the herds of animals.

The Galanopouloi family owes their establishment as the best bell ringers - bell makers in Greece as well as in the Balkans to Konstantinos Galanopoulos (Kostas Galanis) as he was widely known.

He became active as a bell and bronze bell maker after the civil war and with his unparalleled talent he made our family famous throughout Greece and the Balkans, making our name synonymous with the species he produced.

Livestock farmers from all over the world made the long journey of that time to Paramythia in order to meet Kostas Galanopoulos and make their own series of bells (dozens) firsthand.

His bells reached all the metropolitan cities of Greece, as far as the Vatican, the Danubian regions of Bulgaria and Romania, Russia and Mount Athos.

He raised 7 children with his one and only son, Ioannis Galanopoulos, continuing the art after his father's death in 1992, in the footsteps that his father left behind to this day.

Today, Ioannis Galanopoulos' son, Konstantinos, grandson of the legendary Kostas Galanopoulos, continues the art exactly as he learned it from his father and grandfather.

Everything is done by hand, as Konstantinos himself explains
"Earth, copper, fire" all this alloy with art that is lost in time and passed on in the blood from generation to generation.
