About Us
A Family Legacy Forged in Brass Since 1855
The Galanopoulos family originates from Paramythia, Thesprotia, in the Epirus region of northwestern Greece — a land of mountains, shepherds, and centuries-old traditions. Our story begins in 1855, when the first members of our family began crafting handmade brass bells using techniques passed down through generations.
From Constantinople to the World
In 1875, our family established the Kypria foundry in Constantinople, where we produced church bells and animal bells of exceptional quality. Since 1920, our workshop has been located in Zervochori, Paramythia, Thesprotia — the same village where our roots run deepest.
Over 170 years later, we are still here. Still casting. Still listening to the sound of each bell to ensure it meets our standards before it leaves our hands.
Bells That Have Traveled the World
Our bells have reached some of the most remarkable places on earth:
- 🇻🇦 The Vatican
- ⛪ Mount Athos, Greece
- 🇧🇬 Bulgaria
- 🇷🇴 Romania
- 🇷🇺 Russia
From the monasteries of Mount Athos to farms across Europe, America, and Australia — a Galanopoulos bell carries with it the sound of Greece and the weight of history.
How We Make Our Bells
Every bell is cast by hand using traditional methods unchanged for generations. We prepare the molds from soil, melt a copper alloy at extreme temperatures, and pour the metal carefully into each form. Once cooled, each bell is tuned by ear — adjusted until its sound is exactly right. No two bells sound exactly alike. That is not a flaw. That is the point.
More Than a Product
When you buy a Galanopoulos bell, you are not just buying a tool for your animals or a decoration for your home. You are carrying on a tradition that has survived wars, migrations, and centuries of change. You are connecting with the shepherds of Epirus, the monks of Mount Athos, and the craftsmen who came before us.
We are proud of what we make. We hope you will be too.
